Set up for success

This week I’m putting together a few of my favorite health and wellness tools. I have mentioned before how important your environment is and setting yourself up for success. I would encourage you to take inventory of your current environment and possessions to clear out anything that is no longer serving your needs or your goals for the future. Check out this post about organizing your home. Surround yourself with “cues” to set up healthy habits (I’ll be talking about habits more in the future, but I cannot recommend this book enough). For example, I have my home workout equipment (neatly) in one corner and I do my workout there every day. It is where I can see it and have a visual reminder to get my workout in. I set out my clothes so that when I get home from work I immediately change and knock out 20-30 minutes of exercise. I have listed below a few of my favorite pieces of home equipment. Check stores like TJ Maxx or Amazon to get affordable home equipment and workout clothes. You don’t need an elaborate set up but if going to the gym isn’t for you, there are so many great Youtube videos and many fitness apps available. Try different ones until you find one that you actually enjoy! A few of my favorite Youtube workouts are Tone It Up (I also have the app), The Fitness Marshall, PopSugar Fitness, Action Jacquelyn. For walks or gym workouts, have an audiobook, podcast, or playlist designated for that time - something that makes you look forward to listening. If one of your goals is incorporating more meditation or prayer you could set up a calming playlist that you only listen to during that time, or a space in your home that is designated to prayer and quiet time. I like to diffuse oils based on the activity as well. I will pick more energizing blends like citrus during work time or working out. And if I’m going for a more relaxing vibe I like lavender or Peace & Calming. YoungLiving is my favorite brand - feel free to reach out if you’re interested in purchasing! There are so many benefits to using good/natural oils. To save time and money I plan and prep my meals for the week. Most of the time I’m only prepping for a day or two in advance. It works better for me when it feels like it isn’t too much at once. This is one thing I help my clients do as well. It can save so much time and money to prepare in advance. It can also set you up for success in sticking to those healthy meals. I linked the meal planner I like and the containers I use all the time below. Another tip that helps me lately is habit tracking. I use my Cultivate What Matters Powersheets but you could easily create your own. I also write down in my regular planner what workout I did each day and if I got in a walk or time on the elliptical machine, etc. It helps to have a visual because we can so easily skip a day or two and think it won’t make a difference (which it won’t if it’s actually a day or two) but once it turns into skipping an entire week and then not being consistent, it does add up and makes a big difference. I like being able to look back at the week and see what I accomplished and celebrate or if I’m not happy with my week then I can make a plan for how I will improve the next one. Take time to journal about your habits and how you are spending your time during the week to stay mindful and aware of where you are in your progress towards your goals.
