Ok, I’m going to start this one with the biggest lesson on exercise I had to learn for myself: If you wait until you “feel” like working out, you probably won’t ever do it! Movement needs to become a habit, something you do daily without even giving it a thought. The studies are actually showing that you don’t need intense workouts every single day to benefit from exercise. In fact, there are just as many benefits from moderate activity. The key is only to get moving. Find something you enjoy doing and carve out that time for you as an act of self-care so you will look forward to it. I would encourage you to try different types of exercise- take a new class, try a free Youtube video at home, or go for a walk and download your favorite podcast or audiobook and reserve that time to listen to it. I look forward to my walks every day and personally like to switch it up. Sometimes I walk with someone or call a friend or family member, listen to a podcast, music, or walk in silence and use that time to think/unwind or pray. Community also helps with accountability. When I started working out regularly I know I only stayed consistent with it because I was part of a community who was doing the same, living similar lifestyles. We would check in with each other and complete certain challenges or programs together. The best part was that it was all online! It works just as well. That’s exactly what I create with my clients - community and accountability to help them succeed. Sometimes it helps to schedule it in my calendar like an appointment that I can’t miss. I treat it as if someone is depending on me, because someone is.. my future self! If movement is something you’d like to start doing more, take some time to get clear on why and how you would benefit from it, then start experimenting with the type of exercise and time of the day that works best for you. - CS
