Health for the holidays

The holidays can bring so much joy and unfortunately a lot of stress. It can be so easy to say “I’ll start that diet after the holidays” or insert your own ______ after the holidays. But you might have heard me mention this approach before: One decision at a time. Health is a journey. The best approach is often to start with the next right decision instead of setting a future date to start something like Monday or January 1. I would say give yourself grace and be patient during the holiday season but it’s also okay to start on your goals right now instead of waiting! Invest in your health daily, not only on January 1st. This could look like taking a nap AND going for a family walk or playing a yard game. Eat food that brings you joy with people who bring you joy. Yes, that is investing in your health. Stay present and aware. Strive for balance - Choose to say no to dessert if you wish and don’t let anyone make you feel guilty about it. Or have extra dessert and add some extra veggies at the next meal. Always increase your water intake too. After Thanksgiving, I started tracking my water daily. This helps so much to stay on track! I thought I was drinking plenty of water, but once I saw it written down I realized I needed to increase my intake. The important thing is to do what works for you and feel good and confident about your choices because it’s your journey and your goals. This will look different for everyone so don’t compare it to anyone else. Another way to invest in your health? Hire a health coach of course. You can also ask a loved one for coaching as a gift for Christmas. I can help you get clear on your goals and make the best decisions for you. When you are your best, those around you benefit as well. Don’t wait until the new year. Make a list right now of what makes you the healthiest and feel your best, then do more of those things. You can also make a list of what you are doing now that is not contributing to your best and stop doing those things. Let me know if you do this exercise! - CS
